During “Seva” (voluntary work) in a meditation centre in India, I met and got to know Dr. Arun Ghole. I was invited to his house where I was introduced to his wife Dr. Sharayu Ghole.

I was very impressed by her social engagement in Nimbalkarwadi, a village 20 km out of Pune.  This village is totally isolated from medical infrastructure; therefore Dr. Sharayu Ghole founded a small hospital there to guarantee primary health care, particularly for women, as she is a gynaecologist.

In 1999 she established a home for abandoned children in Nimbalkarwadi.  These kids have had to live on the streets as they come from broken families and difficult situations.

With a group of dedicated women around her, she is doing complimentary work, offering love and affection to these children, which they have had missing from their lives.  The children are cared for in a very sympathetic way and a new ‚Äúfamily structure‚Äù is established by giving them tasks in the house and on the premises, so that they learn new skills as well as helping each other and taking responsibility.

Since then, as well as the Children‚Äôs Home (which is inhabited by 9 children) more buildings have been erected.  These include a kindergarten and school, which is attended by over 100 children from the nearby villages.

Dr. Sharayu Ghole prefers a holistic education for the children and promotes advanced training for the teachers and assistants.  The school provides a variety of lessons to the children, including Kathak Indian dance, yoga, meditation, karate, science, sports, art and English and classes are small in number and focus on the individual needs of the child.

We finance the cost of living and education for the nine children and support the infrastructure of the whole project.
